Following Jesus David VanDenburgh, Senior Pastor,  Kettering   SDA   Church ,  Kettering ,  Ohio Summary: Pastor VanDenburgh shares, ?The church is about one thing—following Jesus. Everything else flows from that.? What does   ?following Jesus? mean in the living out of one\s life? This sermon will help in focusing on the answer to this vital question. The first creed The briefest and earliest Christian creed was written by the Apostle Paul and is found in 1 Corinthians 12:3. But look quickly, because it goes by very fast. Paul says, ?Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking by the Spirit of God ever says, ?Let Jesus be cursed.\ And no one can say, ?Jesus is Lord,\ except by the Holy Spirit.? This is what Christians said when they accepted Jesus. It was especially significant in those days, because it was dangerous to say. Historians state that soldiers, civil servants, and government officials would meet one another on the streets of the  Roman Empire

The Grace of Giving B. M. Ruguri, Executive Secretary East-Central Africa Division Summary: In this sermon, B. M. Ruguri emphasizes the source of real security! How does God move upon the human heart to give with grace? Read and be blessed. Not enough for the journey Watchman Nee was a gifted man who excelled in the grace of giving. While serving in the city of Foochow, this young Chinese minister received an invitation to address a series of weekend meeting in Chien-o, a town one-hundred fifty miles up the river. The fare by motorboat would cost at least eighty dollars and Nee only had thirty dollars in hand. But, believing that all of his expenses would be met through the providence of God, he accepted the invitation. That very week, Nee learned that a fellow believer urgently needed money. He wanted to help, but he knew that he still didn\t have the fare for his trip. But Nee couldn\t get his brother\s plight out his mind. God seemed to be reminding him of his d

Caring for One Another Steve Willsey, Associate Pastor,  Spencerville   SDA   Church ,  Silver Spring ,  Maryland Summary:  As Christians we are stewards of one another other.  The author describes how we need one another for our spiritual survival! Staying on tune.  When I attended boarding school as a teenager, the really popular students belonged to music organizations. Unhappily, I had no musical ability. But I knew that I must somehow rise to the occasion. Band was too difficult; so I chose to join the choir. Miss Chamberlain, our choir director, was not easily swayed by my desire to boost my social status. She was rightfully concerned about the quality of her choir\s performances. So this was the deal: I could join, but I must take voice lessons. That was all right, but I did not bargain for the solo performances I had to give in public. I was scared to death at my first solo—which made matters much worse. I couldn\t carry a tune! You would think my teach

When God called him to this challenging task he had no money, no food to feed the hungry orphans, and no land on which to construct the orphanage. George Muller had only one precious commodity—faith in God\s willing-ness to answer prayer and in His ability to supply the needs of His children. Muller was guided and energized by one biblical promise, ?Ask and you will receive? (Jn  16:24 ). Standing on the promise of the immutable Go

El evangelio segun la cuna

The Gospel According to Cradle Roll Bonita Joyner Shields,  Assistant Editor Adventist Review This sermon is an abridged version of Pastor Shield\s farewell message given at Spencerville SDA Church on January 26, 2002. Summary:  The lesson of Cradle Roll is the foundation of the gospel. If we do not understand it, it doesn\t matter what else we do. We will be ?stuck? in our Christian development. If the lesson goes unlearned, nothing we do or believe will have eternal significance. What is this lesson? It is simply yet eloquently expressed in the song, ?Jesus Loves Me.? Introduction .  In life there are lessons we learn along the way. Psychologists tell us that if these lessons are not learned at a particular developmental stage, we will remain ?stuck? and must emotionally revisit that stage of life before we can resolve the issue and move on. I invite you to do some revisiting with me this morning. Think way back in time, past elementary school, past kinde
